Work package 1
Status Report
 
      "Strenghten the knowledge base regarding the status of pediatric and adolescent diabetes and related care in the EU"
  • The report aims to improve information in the area of pediatric and adolescent diabetes in the EU.

  • The report includes an overview of key findings resulting from two questionnaires distributed to leading pediatric diabetes centres and hospitals in all EU Member States.

  • The preliminary conclusions and recomendations identify first potential action points.

   At this point we wish to thank the work package leaders Zdenek Sumnik and Onrej Cinek as well as      
   Anja Strootker and Karoline Lenaers for the hard work with preparing this report.

Work package 2
Draft Report  
 
"Assess existing guidelines to develop recommendations towards minimum,
equal standards of treatment and care"
  • The report aims to provide recommendations for Diabetes care and Treatment in Pediatric Centres of Reference in the EU.
  • The report includes an overview of existing guidelines from the different EU countries.

  • Finally the report indicated some conclusions and recommendations for the clinical practice in children’s diabetes.
  • However, further evaluations and modifications to these documented guidelines have been organised for world wide implementation.

  We would like to thank the work package 2 working group with Carine de Beaufort, Gun Forsander  
  and Andriani Gerasimidou-Vazeou as well as Ragnar Hanas as invited guest representative of ISPAD
  for preparing this report.

Work package 3
Draft Report
 
"Good practice recommendations on age appropriate patient education for pediatric and adolescent diabetes "
  • The report aims to build recommendations of good practice stimulating implementation of pediatric education programmes across the EU .
  • The report includes an overview of currently available guidelines and how they are implemented in some paediatric diabetes centres. 

  • The report points out that national guidelines should refer to the current ISPAD guidelines in order to limit redundancy and confusion as well as to help to improve and update the international guidelines.

  The report has been compiled by the work package leaders Jean- Jacques Robert and Delphine Martin. 
  The SWEET- group would like to thank both.

Work package 4
Draft Report
 
"Develop good practice recommendations on pediatric training programs for Health Care Professionals"
  • The report aims to develop recommendations in order  to support Health Care Professionals  who are tohe able to provide high quality specialised care to children and adolescents with diabetes ....
  • The report includes information concerning current training programmes identified and discussed during workshops, and is based on an analysed questionnaire. 

  • Finally the report summarises guidance and recommendations regarding "Critical Issues" to improve the qualitiy of paediatric diabetes Health Care Professional Training.

   
  We particularly wish  to thank the work package leader Jeremy Algrove and Sheridan Waldron for  their 
  intensiv work in preparing this report and organizing the workshops. Additional we would like to thank all
  SWEET-members for their active participation in the workshops.

"Develop a definition and criteria for centres of reference for pediatric and adolescent diabetes "
  • The main objective of the report was to stimulate the development of "Centres of Reference (CoR)" for paediatric an dadolescent diabetes services in Europe
  • The first section of the report includes the definition and settin gcriterai for the development and recognistionof centres of referecne for paediatric and adolescent diabetes.
  • The second section focuses on the creation of a toolbox for the development and recognistion of centres of reference for paediatric and adolescent diabetes services. 
  This document has been prepared by Karin Lange and Thomas Danne and a working group of the
  Childrens Hospital auf der Bult in Hannover, Germany (Susan Klotman and Bärbel Aschemeier).
